Yiruma

Yiruma is a south korean pianist, but he is also a music composer. The performer was born on the 15^th of February 1978 in Seoul, Korea. I first listened to one of his songs 2 months ago, after I watched the “Twilight” movie and read the book with the same name, written by Stephanie Myers.

He is a young korean with black hair and black eyes. He is a thin man of average height. His dressing manner is a stylish one, always wearing a shirt and suit or a jacket. He has refined taste for clothing. Not only his dressing style is refined, but also his manners, his language and even the position of his body when he plays the piano. One thing I noticed about Yiruma is that he has very nice hands, especially the nails. This is one thing that shows he takes care of his own personal "instrument”.

Yiruma`s first quality is represented by the talent he has. He is a great pianist and an ingenious composer, too. He is a patient, romantic and mannered person. As his wife, Son Hye-im, says: “Yiruma is a very special man. I love everything about him.” Apart from his beautiful piano performance, Yiruma also has a wonderful voice, which can be appreciated in songs such as “Dream” or “One day I will...”.

The artist started studying piano at the age of 5. In 1997, he graduated at Purcell Specialist Music School, in London. After that, in June 2000, he finished his courses at King`s College London.

Yiruma is very well known around the world. The piano music lovers appreciate what he does. His albums are sold all over Asia, as well as the United States and Europe. My favourite song is “River flows in you”, which is found on the same album with the songs “Kiss the rain” and “Maybe”.

During his activity, he has released 11 albums, the first in 2001 and the last was issued last year. One of these albums is recorded with the famous band Oasis. On the 20^th of June 2002, the “Oasis & Yiruma” album was released.

Some music specialists compare Yiruma with Chopin because he uses the same techinques. But every piece of Yiruma has its originality.

He wrote a song which was included on the soundtrack of the movie "Twilight", named “Bella`s Lullaby”, but “River flows in you” was chosen as the best non-official song by the “Twilight” fans.

I like piano music. I took piano lessons when I was younger, but, unfortunately, I had to give up . Now, I like sitting alone and listen to piano music. When I discovered Yiruma`s music, I fell in love with it. I can listen to “River flows in you” over and over again, without getting bored of it. His music gives me a state of happiness combined with sadness: I smile and I cry at the same time. That is why I chose to write an article about Yiruma.
